Saliva Drug Test
If your company does regular testing and decides to use a saliva test instead of a urine test, you might feel a little screwed. That’s not surprising. With a urine test, at least, you have ways to sneak in a clean sample. With a saliva test, your options are a lot more limited.
With a saliva test, you have two options:
- Wait until the drug has cleared out of your system
- Use a saliva detox product and hope for the best.
If your company does random testing, the first is probably not going to help you out much. So, unless you plan to stop taking any drugs, the detox is your best bet.
How Does a Saliva Test Work?
It’s simple; the tester will swab the inside of your cheek to get a sample. This sample can then be sent away to the lab for further testing or tested on the spot using a chemical solution. This solution will change color if specific metabolites are present.
It won’t tell them how much you’ve used, but it will indicate whether or not you’ve taken drugs recently. How long the drug can be detected for depends on the drug itself. On the bright side, it’s usually used to test for weed.
With weed, the metabolites usually only hang around for 24 to 48 hours. This means that if you stick to smoking over the weekends, you’re going to be safe for much of the week.
Unfortunately, the company knows that as well, so tests may be scheduled on a Monday.
Are There Home Remedies You Can Use?
There are plenty of home remedies out there, like apple cider vinegar, for example. The problem with a lot of these home remedies is that they’re quite obvious.
Aside from the fact that swilling out your mouth with apple cider vinegar is disgusting, testers will be able to smell it on your breath.
About the only home remedy that shows real promise is to eat fatty food a couple of hours before the test. The fat should absorb some of the THC in the mouth. Aside from that, good oral hygiene could also assist in reducing THC concentration levels.
What if the Test is About to Go Down?
The way to beat a random test over a shorter period is to administer a substance that adulterates the metabolites. You have two basic options here – Oral Clear Gum or Ultra Klean Mouthwash. These act quickly and will work with ten minutes or so.
The gum and mouthwash are conveniently packed so that they can be kept in your pocket or purse. They work really well, and there’s nothing suspect about an employee who’s using mouthwash or gum.
The downside is that the effects are pretty short-lived. Work on around half hour to be on the safe side.
So, How Do You Deal With a Saliva Test?
The key here is to use the right products. Swilling your mouth out with apple cider vinegar or cranberry juice just won’t cut it. If you want real results, stick to a product designed for this purpose from a reputable company.
